Anfield side chase Benfica winger.

Check in to Spain vs Netherlands

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to sign Benfica youngster Lazar Markovic as his efforts to capture Southampton star Adam Lallana continue to stall.

Football Direct News claim the Anfield side will battle Chelsea for the £30m rated attacker who impressed during his first season in the Portuguese capital.

The 20 year old winger was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge prior to moving to his move to Estádio da Luz last June and Markovic appears set for a swift exit despite helping the Eagles to a Primeira Liga title.

Rodgers has already successfully brought in Southampton forward Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can and has been linked with a myriad of other summer signings though one wonders if the Merseyside outfit would be willing to fork out £30m for a player with relatively little top level experience.

A move for Markovic would adhere to Rodgers’ youthful transfer policy and would ably strengthen his attacking options and the Northern Irish boss would do well to sell Iago Aspas, Fabio Borini and Oussama Assaidi to help balance the books after such a purchase.
