Premier League giants Liverpool have held ‘productive’ talks with Spanish giants Barcelona over the potential, and increasingly likely, transfer of Luis Suarez, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The Mail though claims that Barcelona have already bid £72m, although this doesn’t seem to be substantiated by any actual source, with the Echo claiming that Barcelona have instead bid £60m, with Liverpool holding out for as much as £75m.

Ian Ayre opened negotiations with a delegation from the Spanish giants in London on Wednesday, and discussions are said to have been amiable, and following the Uruguayan forward’s World Cup biting shame, it looks like he will finally get the move he’s pined for so long.

An Anfield source, close to the Echo, said: “The talks were productive with sensible expectations on both sides.”

“Further talks and discussions will take place in due course. Nothing is finalised as of now.”

Ayre also told Barcelona’s chief negotiator Raul Sanllehi that the Reds would accept a £45m plus Alexis Sanchez for the services of Suarez, but will have to fight off interest from Arsenal for the Chilean, with the Gunners having already bid for the 25-year-old.

Last term, Suarez scored 31 Premier League goals and won the Player of the Year award too – and was apparently happy on Merseyside having signed a bumper contract extension until 2018.

Following his bite on Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup though, the media in England (quite rightly) turned on him once more, which some believe to be the catalyst for his potential move to La Liga.
