Kompany has skippered City to two titles in the past three years, and is the first name on their team sheet. The fans love him, and because of City’s virtually incomparable financial position, they wouldn’t feel the need to sell for even the most astronomical fee. It almost wouldn’t feel right if Kompany wasn’t playing for City – and with the player himself desperate for Champions League glory with the Sky Blues, he has unfinished business at the Etihad anyway.
