Spurs to battle London rivals for experienced international goalscorer.
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino is planning a move for former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o, according to The Sun.
The 33-year-old Cameroon international is currently a free agent, after being released by the Stamford Bridge club at the end of last season.
West Ham United are already in talks with the player’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli.
However, Spurs are hopeful of hijacking West Ham’s move for Eto’o, who is keen to stay in London.
Eto’o would probably prefer a switch to White Hart Lane, with Spurs in the Europa League and better positioned to compete for silverware.
In 21 Premier League appearances last term, Eto’o scored nine times and provided two assists.
His previous clubs include Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Anzhi Makhachkala.
Eto’o has been capped 118 times at senior international, scoring 56 goals.
Emmanuel Adebayor, who netted 11 goals, was the only Spurs player to reach double figures in the league last term.
Roberto Soldado could only muster six strikes in 28 games, while Harry Kane bagged three in 10.
Spurs have already made three signings this summer, adding Ben Davies, Michel Vorm and Eric Dier to their ranks.
