Liverpool are readying a club record £40m bid for PSG forward Edinson Cavani with Brendan Rodgers hoping to replace Uruguayan international Luis Suarez with his fellow countryman.

CaughtOffside understands that the Anfield boss has been given the green light to launch a big money bid for the 27 year old Parc des Princes star despite having already forked out almost £90m on new signings thus far this summer.

Liverpool banked £75m from the sale of Suarez to Barcelona and believe the acquisition of a proven forward to partner Daniel Sturridge is key to their ambitions of securing major domestic honours as well as mounting a solid return to Champions League action.

Rodgers is well aware that PSG boss Laurent Blanc will have to balance his books in order to adhere to UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines having spent a great deal over the past couple of seasons and the Ligue 1 side’s likely capture of Real Madrid winger Angel di Maria will make such sales all the more urgent.

Cavani is unhappy with being used in a wide attacking role to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and may be open to a move to replace his national team colleague at Liverpool.

Liverpool are ready to offer Cavani a lucrative salary of as much as £180k a week in an attempt to lure the former Napoli man to the Premier League.

Prior to his move to the French capital the powerful marksman racked up a hugely impressive 104 goals in three seasons in Naples and even though he is deemed to be ‘unsettled’ at PSG Cavani still managed to net 25 times in all competitions last term.
