City desperate to beat rivals United to Bernabeu star.
Manchester City could be ready to offer star striker Sergio Aguero to Real Madrid as part of a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo next summer, it has emerged.
The Premier League champions are believed to be one of the clubs in contention to snap up the Portuguese superstar next season, with speculation hotting up that the 29-year-old wants out of Madrid.
Manchester United and Chelsea are also being linked with a move for Ronaldo, in deals that could be worth around £60m, according to varying reports, though City may now look to edge ahead of their rivals in the race for his signature by offering up a tempting swap deal to the Spanish giants.
City striker Aguero has been linked with Real a number of times in the past and remains a long-term target of theirs, particularly as the club missed out to United for the signing of Radamel Falcao this summer.
With Ronaldo leaving likely to leave Carlo Ancelotti’s side somewhat short of goals, Aguero could be an ideal like-for-like replacement upfront, with the Argentine having shown himself to be one of the most clinical goalscorers in Europe in recent times.
Although the 26-year-old has been such an important player for City, it is thought that the club may be willing to grant him a move back to Spain, where he previously made a name for himself on the big stage with Atletico Madrid.
The signing of Ronaldo would certainly soften the blow of Aguero’s departure, and could make sense for the team as their current talisman has often struggled with injury and not played as often as Manuel Pellegrini would have liked.
