The Belgian international narrowly missed out on the Blues Champions League triumph in 2012, arriving at Stamford Bridge just two months after the clubs historic night in Munich.

Chelsea came close to appearing in the final of Europe’s biggest club competition last year, being beaten by Atletico Madrid in the semi finals.

This season, Hazard believes that his side have the quality to go one better after bringing in the likes of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas during the summer.

“My ambition in the Champions League is pretty much the same as it has been since I’ve been at Chelsea,” he told the club’s official website. “Personally and collectively it is to go as far as we can, which is to win it.

“With the team we have I think that it’s possible. There is also Real Madrid who are the holders, Bayern Munich are very strong again this year, there are some other great teams – so let’s see how it goes.

“We have to qualify from the group stage first, that’s the most important thing right now.”

Chelsea face Sporting Lisbon on matchday two and will hope for a better performance than in their last Champions League match when they were held 1-1 by Schalke at Stamford Bridge.
