Former Chelsea stopper confirms he came close to joining La Liga title contenders.
Paris Saint Germain star David Luiz has confirmed that he came close to joining Barcelona this summer and that he could have been lining up for them rather than against them in Tuesday night’s Champions League clash, Sky Sports reports.
PSG welcome the Catalan club to the Parc des Princes in a mouth-watering Champions League Group F encounter and Luiz will be hoping to make his mark against the club he spurned.
Having linked up with the Ligue 1 big spenders from Chelsea this summer, Luiz has revealed that his future could have taken a different turn.
“It’s true that they came to feel me out a few times and it looked so good,” he said.
“But eventually I realised that the team that really wanted me and bought me was PSG.”
Luis also admitted that he and his teammates are aware that the club have made a less than ideal start to the campaign, but they are hoping to pick things up with a strong performance against the Spaniards.
“We’re growing over the weeks. We have to find a better version of our style of play,” he added.
“We know there is much room for improvement and we are aware that is how the big teams think.
“Over the years I’ve learned that if you think you’ve reached the top of the ladder then you are heading for a fall. That’s not a good mentality to have.
“You must be ambitious, with humility, because you can always improve. We are on the right road and PSG will get back to what they were last season.”
