Arsenal Left Frustrated As Target Looks Close To Agreeing Contract Extension Featuring €45m Release Clause

The Gunners look set to miss out on yet another target…

Arsenal target Cedric Soares is on the verge of agreeing a new deal at Sporting, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese full-back is apparently close to a deal that will last until 2018, which will raise his release clause from €30m to €45, and presumably raise his wages too.

Arsenal’s lack of depth at the back has seriously harmed their start to the season, with Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny both having missed large periods through injury.

This has lead to the Gunners being linked with a variety of targets in the last few months, including Soares. Sporting have clearly taken note of the Gunners interest in their young star, and have responded with a new deal.

Of course Arsenal wouldn’t have to offer the full €45m. Sporting are based on a policy of developing and selling on players for a profit, so Arsenal might get away with a lower bid. Whatever the price, the new deal makes a transfer in January far less likely.

Soares’ outstanding club form for Sporting has lead to a recent Portugal call-up. He made his debut against France in October, and looks to be the future of the right-back position in the national team.
