Bilbao allegedly tried to sign the left-back over the summer, but saw the move blocked by Gunners boss Arsene Wenger. The Spanish club seem not have been deterred however, and are set to go back in for Monreal this January with an €8m bid.
Monreal has not always been a regular starter with the Gunners, but injuries all across the back four have seen him get a number of opportunities.
Although naturally a left-back, an injury to Laurent Koscielny has recently seen him pushed into the centre of defence alongside Per Mertesacker.
Monreal came to the Emirates Stadium in 2013 from Malaga, and seemingly has no intention of leaving in January. Instead the Spanish international would prefer to remain with the North Londoners and see out the remainder of his current deal; a contract that runs until 2017.
