Reds head the list of clubs chasing Winston Reid.
Liverpool are leading the pack when it comes to the Premier League clubs who are hoping to secure the bargain signing of New Zealand international central defender Winston Reid in January, report the Mirror, with the West Ham United central defender looking less and less likely to pen a new contract at Upton Park.
Reid, who has been one of the most impressive and consistent performers for West Ham since signing from Danish outfit FC Midtjylland four years ago, is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to try his hand at earning a move to a bigger club, despite the impressive start to the season made by Sam Allardyce’s Hammers.
Allardyce himself distanced himself from the contract talks that are ongoing between Reid and the club, suggesting that it is a matter between the player’s agents and his Upton Park superiors:
“His contract situation is an on-going factor between the owner and his agent. I would imagine one or both are going to come to the conclusion this has gone as far as it’s going to go and can’t go any farther.”
Allardyce’s words will be of concern to West Ham fans, who have grown accustomed to seeing Reid as a calm and organising presence at the heart of their defence – although they will give hope to both Liverpool and Arsenal, with the latter also having been linked with a potential move for Reid during the course of the season.
