The Chilean was speaking after his team missed the chance to close the gap on the Stamford Bridge outfit. The Blues had drawn with Southampton 1-1 earlier on Sunday, only for the Citizens to also drop points in a 2-2 stalemate with Burnley later in the day. They had been two goals up before the Clarets came back to take a point from the Etihad.
However, the 61-year-old is still confident that his squad can catch Jose Mourinho’s side. Less than half the matches have been played so far this season, so there is certainly time for first place in the league to change hands before the title is awarded in May.
“Of course it’s a chance to have two points more but we finished the first round with 43 points – a good amount,” he said of his side’s 2-2 draw.
“Just because you play at home you shouldn’t be sure you are going to get the points. I think we have all the second round [to play] and we will be the best team,” he added.
The Sky Blues are currently having to play James Milner up front due to injuries to Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, and Stevan Jovetic. They have still been able to pick up points despite the lack of a recognised centre forward.
