21 year old Argentine Icardi has impressed this term even as his side struggles and Mourinho will hope that he can convince Roberto Mancini to consider offers for the forward, who has netted eight goals in 14 Serie A starts thus far this season.

Egyptian Salah hasn’t started a Premier League game this season and seems likely to leave Stamford Bridge and if Mourinho can use the former FC Basel man to aid his push for Icardi then it’s a move that will certainly help kill two birds with one stone.

By all accounts Mancini is ready to sell Icardi to help fund moves to re-shape the squad he took control of in mid-November.

Mourinho may feel the need to strengthen this striking options in view of Didier Drogba’s advancing years with summer signing Loic Remy thus far only being used in a supporting role.
