The £16m-rated Porto attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the most promising young South American talents at the moment, and has been dubbed the ‘Colombian Lionel Messi’ in the past.
Quintero is believed to have caught Arsenal’s eye in the summer, though a move for the youngster to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium never materialised.
Southampton now hope they can tempt the 21-year-old to England with a bid this January, whilst also eyeing his Porto team-mate Bruno Martins Indi in an ambitious double swoop this winter.
