The 19-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, but Dortmund are believed to be keen on snapping him up now in January.
However, they could face some serious competition for his signature as he is also said to be wanted by the likes of Everton, Manchester City and Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham.
The German strugglers are said to be in pole position to snap him up, though, and are believed to be close to agreeing personal terms.
Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the teenage striker after being alerted by his goal-scoring efforts for Arsenal and England’s youth teams.
Klopp believes Akpom has all the necessary ingredients to be a success in the Bundesliga and hopes to move to alleviate the teenager of his fears over his lack of first team opportunities at the Emirates.
Akpom has also been assured that Klopp’s job is safe despite their struggles staying out of the relegation zone.
