The Blues have been linked with a move for Inter forward Mauro Icardi.
Chelsea’s apparent chase for highly rated young Argentine striker Mauro Icardi may have hit a hitch, with the Express reporting that the San Siro side are set to enter into contract talks with the former Sampdoria star on account of his impressive performances for the side this season despite the club’s indifferent Serie A campaign.
Icardi has been one of few shining lights for Inter this season, at least he was prior to Roberto Mancini’s return as manager and the likes of Lukas Podolski and Xherdan Shaqiri arriving on loan, with Chelsea reportedly having been alerted to the player’s huge potential and keeping their eye on the 21 year-old.
Inter are looking to allow Mancini to build a team capable of taking the club back into the Champions League after a barren spell, however, and Icardi is certainly a player who they will be looking to keep at the club, with quality more likely to be coming into the San Siro than departing on the evidence of January so far.
The report suggests that Icardi’s agent is set to travel to Milan for talks with Inter chiefs about extending his client’s current deal, which doesn’t expire until 2018.
