Campbell has been linked with numerous continental clubs on loan this month, but Villarreal have won the race on account of their dealings with Arsenal and will now look to the former Olympiakos loanee to help their push to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with the side currently unbeaten since early November.
The Costa Rican praised his new club’s “style of play”, whilst also indicating that he was very excited to launch his El Madrigal career as soon as the deal is concluded, which could be as early as Monday:
“Playing at Villarreal for the rest of the season means a lot to me, I’m very happy for this opportunity and expect the loan deal to be finalized tomorrow.”
Signed as a teenager from his native Costa Rica, Campbell has long been rated as one of the most exciting young talents at Arsene Wenger’s disposal, but he is yet to make the breakthrough into the Arsenal first team.
