Walcott missed the best part of a year after suffering a cruciate ligament injury during an FA Cup victory against rivals Tottenham Hotspur last February and has only recently returned to the first team setup.

Not that many would be able to tell as the England international shone after being put back in the starting XI by manager Arsene Wenger, scoring the Gunners’ third goal and generally looking sharp.

Walcott is understandably glad to be back on the pitch and admits that his return to the team has coincided with a real up-turn in form for the North London club.

“The whole crowd, everything – it’s buzzing around the place. When a team’s at the top of their game, everything happens for them. Everything’s happening for us at the moment,” the 25-year-old was quoted by Goal.

“It’s always nice to get goals, especially at the Emirates. The fans have been fantastic to me. My little boy was there as well which was fantastic to see. The finish was great but it was all about the three points in the end.

“The first half was quite cautious. Aston Villa came at us and they had a game plan, they pressurised us, and going it at half-time 1-0 was probably just deserved. Second half I couldn’t think of a [more] one-sided game. It was a great victory and it’s always important to get a lot of goals.”

Wenger’s men looked superb against a struggling Villans side and Olivier Giroud, Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Hector Bellerin were all on target as they strolled to the three points despite the fact talisman Alexis Sanchez was rested.
