Whatever happens this evening in the final hours before the transfer window closes, Tottenham Hotspur fans will be delighted with how the day has turned out.
That’s because local lad Harry Kane this morning put pen to paper on a new five-and-a-half year contract, which ties him to his boyhood club until the summer of 2020.
Kane has been one of the stars of the season so far. The 21-year-old has scored 20 goals in all competitions – more than any other Premier League player.
The academy graduate actually made his first-team debut for Spurs back in August 2011, but he really burst onto the scene towards the end of last season under the management of Tim Sherwood.
Kane rewarded Sherwood’s faith in him by scoring on each of his first three Premier League starts.
In took Kane a while to convince new head coach Mauricio Pochettino that he was worthy of consistent Premier League game time, though.
Kane started this season behind Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado in the striker pecking order at White Hart Lane.
However, a string of fine performances in the Capital One Cup and Europa League, including a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Asteras Tripolis, were ultimately impossible for Pochettino to ignore.
Kane made his first Premier League start of the season in November and he has been one of the first names on Pochettino’s teamsheets ever since.
Kane has not yet been capped by England at senior international level, although he has scored eight goals in ten games for the Under-21 side.
