Roque Santa Cruz Rejected Europe – Wants A Title With Cruz Azul

Santa Cruz is confident of winning titles in Mexico.

Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz wants to reproduce the form that earned him a transfer to Europe and sees Cruz Azul as the ideal team with which to win a championship.

Santa Cruz has his mind set on winning titles with Cruz Azul; claiming that is one of the main reasons why the he chose to come to play football in Mexico.

He believes he can continue to enjoy considerable success in his career while playing in the Liga MX and chose Cruz Azul because he knows that they are championship contenders almost every season.

The striker, who comes from Malaga in Spain, revealed that lots of European clubs sought his services, but he said the challenge that Cruz Azul represented in his career was too great to turn down.

“I want more titles,” Santa Cruz said.

“I could go and play for teams in Europe, but they were not teams that challenge for trophies. Cruz Azul are one of the most famous sides in Latin America and I am proud to wear their shirt. I hope I can give much pleasure to the fans.”

Santa Cruz started his career with Club Olimpia Asuncion in 1997 and moved to Germany in 1999. The highest points of the Paraguayan’s career were with Bayern Munich, where he won five Bundesliga titles, four German Cups, the Champions League and the Intercontinental Championship.
