His compatriot has failed to make an impact at Anfield since signing for the Reds in the summer. What’s more, the 24-year-old was recently told off by his manager for taking the ball away from teammate Jordan Henderson for a penalty kick.

Meanwhile Pelle has enjoyed a fine first season in the Premier League, scoring eight goals so far in the competition. He will want to continue this run against the Merseyside club when they meet on Sunday afternoon.

Contrary to common thought, the striker actually thinks that Balotelli is working too hard!

Pelle said, “I feel sorry for him sometimes because of what’s happened to him. It’s not very nice if everybody talks about you that you are doing sh*t. With a striker it’s just about small things.

“I remember in another game he played against Manchester United and he was unlucky. Maybe if he had scored then it would have given him more confidence. He is a really good player, but he’s trying to do something more and it’s never easy for a striker.”
