The club of the Principality outclassed the Corsicans on Friday evening to keep the pressure on the top three in France.
AS Monaco registered a comfortable 3-0 victory over SC Bastia to move to within three points of third-place Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1 table.
The home side sought to pressure their opponents early and opened the score through Franco-Cameroonian hitman Anthony Martial.
They had the chance to double their lead soon after when Drissa Diakite was shown red for a foul inside the box. However, left-back Layvin Kurzawa’s spot kick was easily saved by Alphonse Areola.
Bastia were only holding off the inevitable however, and soon conceded a second as Matheus doubled the home side’s lead.
Martial bagged a second on 51 minutes, and there was some late drama as substitute Giovanni Sio was shown a straight red for a wild kick on Kurzawa only moments after coming on.
