AS Monaco returned to Ligue 1 action with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Stade de Reims on Sunday afternoon.
While table-toppers Paris Saint-Germain returned to domestic action after their Champions League triumph with a muted display in defeat to Girondins de Bordeaux last weekend, Monaco were keen to follow up their progression against Arsenal with a convincing performance against Reims.
Leonardo Jardim’s side came out of the blocks quickly and scored twice in the first 15 minutes.
Fabinho finished after a fine pass from Joao Moutinho before Anthony Martial all but settled the contest with this superb lob.
Monaco struggled to find the third though, with Martial guilty of not adding to his excellent early effort. They were stunned when Reims’ Diego pulled this sumptuous finish out of nowhere.
Lesser sides might have crumbled as Reims upped the ante, but not the Monegasques, who found a third courtesy of Nabil Dirar’s head.
This win pushes Monaco closer to the top of the table and dreams of the title, let alone of the Champions League, are far from extinguished.
