Former Liverpool forward Andrea Dossena was arrested for shoplifting at London department store Harrods on Tuesday, and the Internet has typically responded brilliantly.

The Leyton Orient defender was apparently caught red handed in the store, and the Met Police confirmed that a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, and both have been granted bail until the end of April, BBC News reported.

Dossena has since spoken out over the claims via his agent Federico Pastorello on Twitter – insisting that the arrest was purely a misunderstanding – that he simply mistakenly ‘forgot to pay for a honey jar and some sliced meats ??we had previously ordered’.

Nonetheless, despite the League One player denying any wrongdoing, social media has – of course – reacted humorously to the incident…
