The Red Devils are on the market for a specialist right wing-back as Louis van Gaal looks keen to replace current stars Antonio Valencia and Rafael in that part of the pitch, with neither truly impressing on a consistent basis so far this season.
Alves is also thought to be attracting interest from other big clubs around Europe such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, according to the Daily Mirror, but United hope to lure him to Old Trafford.
The Brazilian international has long been a key player for Barcelona, joining from Sevilla back in 2008 and winning the treble in his first season with the club, just one of many successful seasons under Pep Guardiola’s management.
Still, he now looks set for a new challenge after allowing his contract to run down.
