The Gunners have yet to begin discussions over a new deal with the 26-year-old but as he only has one-year left, this has in turn seen Liverpool make their interest in a potential move known.

However, Mirror Online claim contract talks between Walcott and current club Arsenal will now take place over the next two weeks.

This is just the latest twist in a long-running contract saga; Arsene Wenger claimed negotiations had begun earlier in March before a rather frank tweet from Walcott last month where he insisted there had been no such talks ‘as yet’.

Brendan Rodgers already believes he’s managed to sign Burnley striker Danny Ings say the Mirror, and is also very confident the reds can sign Walcott with the forward unlikely to be allowed to enter the last year of his contract.

For Walcott, the report says where he ends up playing will be determined by how much playing time he gets, adding that he’s more concerned with winning back his place in the starting XI than a huge money deal.
