White Hart Lane side chase Toffee star.
Tottenham are reportedly ready to battle Man City in pursuit of Everton midfielder James McCarthy according to the Daily Mirror.
The 24 year old Republic of Ireland international is apparently unhappy that he hasn’t been rewarded with an improved contract and this has sparked speculation about his future at the Goodison Park outfit.
McCarthy had a standout debut season at Everton last term, impressing greatly since his £13m move from Wigan Athletic, and the midfield battler had expected to secure a lucrative new deal due to his efforts but as yet no such deal has been agreed.
White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino has taken a keen interest in McCarthy but Man City may well feel they are in the driving seat to land the Toffees star.
The Etihad Stadium side are keen to beef up their homegrown contingent and a move for McCarthy would handily do just that whilst offering Manuel Pellegrini a fresh midfield option.
Though Everton have improved of late, this term has proven something of a damp squib and the likely lack of European football next term may well hasten McCarthy’s exit.
