The 25-year-old, formerly of Poole Town, Swindon Town and Burnley, has impressed hugely since move to Queen’s Park Rangers having scored 20 goals in last year’s promotion campaign despite having suffered an injury in between January and April.

Prior to that, Austin had netted 28 goals for Burnley in the previous season and has not let up this year and currently has 17 goals for the R’s.

The striker would count towards Chelsea’s contingent of home grown players and is believed to have caught manager Jose Mourinho’s eye this season.

According to Metro, Chelsea are weighing up a deal to sign Austin this summer and if QPR were to be relegated, it would surely help the deal go through much more smoothly from a Blues perspective.

Despite that, the local rivalry between the two clubs would be sure to see fans of the Loftus Road club hugely disappointed to see him switch allegiances.
