Napoli head coach Rafael Benitez is reportedly close to informing the club that he intends to leave at the end of the season.
TuttoMercatoWeb claims the Spaniard wanted assurances over the acquisition of three marquee players, the development of the youth team and improvements to the stadium, none of which seem to be forthcoming.
The situation could be resolved, in private at least, as early as this weekend, as president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager to make his mind up on Saturday.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the club, Benitez could yet guide Napoli to qualification for next season’s Champions League.
They are currently fourth in the Serie A table, five points clear of fifth-placed Sampdoria, and could also qualify by winning the Europa League – a competition Benitez won during his time at Stamford Bridge.
He has been linked with Manchester City, but he dismissed the speculation earlier this month. Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini could be dismissed following a bitterly-disappointing campaign.
