TuttoMercatoWeb claims the Spaniard wanted assurances over the acquisition of three marquee players, the development of the youth team and improvements to the stadium, none of which seem to be forthcoming.

The situation could be resolved, in private at least, as early as this weekend, as president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants the former Liverpool and Chelsea manager to make his mind up on Saturday.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the club, Benitez could yet guide Napoli to qualification for next season’s Champions League.
