The Red Devils shot-stopper has been one of the club’s best players this season, and indeed one of the stand-out performers of the whole Premier League season.

De Gea’s fine form had seen him linked strongly with an exit from the club to replace Iker Casillas as number one at the Bernabeu, but it now looks as though he is ready to sign a new two-year contract.

According to The Sun, the 24-year-old is set to commit his immediate future to United, though he wants the option of walking away from the club on a free transfer in 2017, seemingly still habouring ambition to play for the Spanish giants.

This will come as welcome news for United fans in general, even if it means de Gea only stays with the club for two more seasons.
