The news could come as a boost to Tottenham, who have been keeping a close eye on the £12m-rated forward this season, with the view to making him one of the first new faces they bring in during the transfer window.

With the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado set to move on, the 23-year-old, who has bagged 20 goals in the south coast side’s rise to the top flight, will be seen as a greater alternative than the pair, after the managed just 11 goals between them this term.

Spurs are also likely to listen to offers for the likes of Erik Lamela, Paulinho, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue, Younes Kaboul and Mousa Dembele, as manager Mauricio Pochettino looks to bring in a striker, midfielder, and two new defenders.
