Liverpool fans have flown a banner over Anfield backing manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of captain Steven Gerrard’s last Anfield appearance.

It was a similar banner to the one flown over the ground calling for the Northern Irishman to be sacked several weeks ago. The vote of confidence will be good news for the 42-year-old, who has come under pressure after failing to repeat last season’s success this time round.

The Reds look likely to finish fifth in the Premier League after coming second in the last campaign, and were knocked out at the semi final stage of both the Capital One and FA Cups. The lack of Champions League football next season could be especially damaging, with it likely being a factor in whether players sign for them during the summer.

However, the fans still seem to be behind their manager, who will be looking to build towards another title challenge over the next few months. First up though they will want to win Anfield legend Gerrard’s final game at the ground…
