The Bayern Munich manager was invited to the match on June 6 by his former team, but has emphatically declined the chance to watch his former side play.
“No, no, no,” he began, as reported by L’Equipe, “I’m staying here,” the world-class coach confirmed.
Guardiola’s Bayern Munich had hopes themselves of reaching the final and of lifting the club’s sixth European Cup—and Pep’s first since arriving at the club in 2013.
However, the Bavarians were trounced by Barca in the semi-finals—losing 3-0 in the first leg and being eliminated following a 5-3 aggregate defeat—putting Bayern’s return to the final on hold for at least one more campaign.
Guardiola enjoyed immense success during his time at the Nou Camp, winning 14 honours, including two European Cups in four years between 2008 and 2012.
Despite enjoying convincing domestic success since moving to the Bundesliga, Guardiola is yet to translate his fine continental form with Barca to the Allianz Arena.
