The Red Devils support cheered the Spanish international off the pitch against Arsenal last week with chants pleading with him to stay at Old Trafford, with speculation growing that he was edging towards a move to the Bernabeu.
It may now be that the fans’ reactions that day have had a real effect on the goalkeeper, who is now thought to be in two minds about whether or not to make the return to Madrid, where he previously played for Real’s La Liga rivals Atletico.
According to The Sun, de Gea is set to make an announcement on his future next week, but it remains unknown whether or not he will make a u-turn on his decision to quit United.
De Gea is widely regarded as having been the club’s best player this season and perhaps the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
