According to the Daily Mirror, the Bundesliga giants have raided rivals Bayer Leverkusen for the signing of defensive midfielder Gonzalo Castro, who has already agreed a move for next season.
Gundogan’s future has been under speculation for some time after he informed Dortmund he would not be signing a new contract, making it highly likely that he would leave the club in the summer.
This put United on alert while Arsenal and Barcelona have also been mentioned as possible contenders to sign the talented German international, who has impressed with his displays in the Bundesliga in recent years.
Castro should be a good replacement for Gundogan as Dortmund plan for next season, with manager Jurgen Klopp also on his way out of the club at the end of this campaign.
