As news filtered through that Sepp Blatter has been re-elected as FIFA president on Friday afternoon, those on Twitter reacted to the news. It is safe to say that many users are none too pleased with the decision.
Blatter won the 2015 FIFA presidential elections after beating Prince Ali bin al-Hussein, who withdrew his candidacy in the first round with defeat looking increasingly inevitable.
There have been calls from the likes of British Prime Minister David Cameron for Blatter to resign following the arrests of several FIFA executives on corruption charges earlier in the week [via BBC Sport].
Despite Blatter’s controversial methods as president being unpopular, it would appear the Swiss is doing something right and is set to serve for another four years.
Take a look at the reaction of some on social media that take a clear displeasure at Blatter’s victory:
As predictable as it is depressing. All those FIFA members that voted for Blatter have betrayed the game they are supposed to cherish.

Luis Figo on Blatter re-election: “This vote has only served to endorse the election of a man who can’t remain in charge of world football.” — Orla Chennaoui (@SkyOrla) May 29, 2015

Big nations now obligated to boycott 2018 WorldCup. Not fair to the players, but Blatter has made his bed. World needs heroes, not cowards — Clark Whitney (@Mr_Bundesliga) May 29, 2015
A Football Federation that voted for Blatter doesn’t care about football at all.

So that’s that. Blatter’s back for four more years. Sorry for clogging your TLs with some often discursive nonsense, but it is what it is. — Matt Scott (@Matt5cott) May 29, 2015
