The highly-rated Dutchman was unveiled as an Manchester United player to the media on Friday afternoon following his reported £25million [via BBC Sport] move after a highly successful season in the Eredivisie.

Depay has put pen to paper on a four-year deal with an option of an extra year at Old Trafford. Speaking for the first time as a United player, the 21-year-old heaped praise on van Gaal.

“This is a dream come true for me,” he admitted to reporters [via Mirror Sport].

“To play for the biggest club in the world and also to have the chance to work with someone who I believe is the best manager in the world, Louis van Gaal,” Depay added.

The forward finished the season in Holland as the top-goalscorer after finding the net 22 times in just 30 league appearances, and will provide further attacking options for van Gaal next season.

If the 4-3-3- formation that served the Red Devils so well towards the back end of the campaign is to stay then Depay is likely battle Ashley Young for the slot in his favoured left-wing role.

The Netherlands attacker will likely play a key role at Old Trafford next season considering the club’s paucity of attacking options; Radamel Falcao has left the club following his disappointing four-goal season, while Robin van Persie [Daily Star], Angel Di Maria [Express] and Javier Hernandez [Mirror] have all been rumoured to be joining him in the departure lounge.

Depay is unlikely to be the last major arrival at the club this summer as rumours have seen United linked with a host of players including Borussia Dortmund’s deep-lying playmaker Ilkay Gundogan, who is set to make an announcement on his future in the coming weeks according to the Manchester Evening News.

Meanwhile a new centre-half and striker are thought to be high on van Gaal’s priority list with Daily Star Sport claiming Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi is keen to join compatriot Marcos Rojo next year. Sky Sports revealed on Friday afternoon that Tottenham star Harry Kane remains a top target.
