The 31-year-old Dutch international would represent the second Old Trafford star to have been lured to the Istanbul outfit this summer with Fenerbahce, already having snapped up winger Nani in a £4.5 million deal.

Sky Sports claims that Fenerbahce director Giuliano Terraneo is in talks with van Persie’s representatives in London, and a move to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium could help revive the former Arsenal marksman’s career.

The usually lethal finisher racked up 30 goals in his debut season at Man United, during which Sir Alex Ferguson’s side secured a Premier League title, but van Persie’s form has suffered over the past 18 months or so.

Last season van Persie managed just ten Premier League goals, and with just a year to run on his current contract, this summer may represent Man United’s last chance to cash-in on the £24m signing [via BBC Sport].

Should Man United choose to sell van Persie then they would be fairly light on options in the final third.

Louis van Gaal elected to allow Radamel Falcao to return to AS Monaco after his loan spell, the Colombian subsequently moving to Chelsea (via official Chelsea website), and if van Persie were also depart then the Dutchman would have to rely upon Wayne Rooney and new signing Memphis Depay as possible central striking options.

Fenerbahce lost their Super Lig title to Galatasaray last season but moves to bring in players of Nani and Robin van Persie’s quality will certainly help new boss Vítor Pereira mount a big push to win back their domestic crown.
