Recently-axed Liverpool defender wanted by Ligue 1 side

Javier Manquillo, whose loan deal at Liverpool was prematurely ended earlier this month, is wanted by Girondins de Bordeaux.

Willy Sagnol’s Ligue 1 outfit are plotting to replace Brazilian full-back Mariano, who is on the brink of confirming a move to Sevilla, where he will replace Barcelona-bound Aleix Vidal.

The Gironde heavyweights have shortlisted two players to replace the 29-year-old, with Atletico Madrid’s Manquillo being considered alongside OFK Belgrade’s 20-year-old full-back, Milan Gajic according to L’Equipe.

While the latter is a recent U20 World Cup winner, having lifted the tournament in New Zealand with Serbia recently, Manquilllo’s experience may give him the edge.

The right-back began his career at Real Madrid, before switching to Atletico in 2007. He gradually earned his stripes with the Colchoneros’ B team, making six league appearances for Diego Simeone’s first team across the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.

He spent last term on loan at Liverpool, but struggled to impress, managing only 10 league appearances, two each in the domestic cups and a further five outings in Europe.
