Paris Saint-Germain end transfer negotiations with Manchester United over Angel Di Maria (Video & Twitter)

Angel Di Maria is set to remain with Manchester United, following reports that a potential transfer to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain has broken down.

According to BeIN Sports, who are owned by PSG owner Nasser Ghanim Al-Khelaifi, the French outfit are set to pursue other transfer targets after failing to agree a deal with the Red Devils over the signing of the Argentine winger.

The reports comes on the back of rumours that an agreement was in place for a fee of €65 million [via France Football] but it now appears those claims are wide of the mark, as Di Maria looks set to extend his stay in the Premier League.

Following his club-record £59.7 million transfer from La Liga giants Real Madrid last summer, the 27-year-old struggled to adapt to the demands of English football and has been heavily tipped to seek an exit from Old Trafford this summer.

After a promising start to life in Manchester where he scored on his home debut against Queens Park Rangers and followed it up with a stunning goal against Leicester City a week later, his form dramatically dipped during the second half of the season and was kept out of the starting XI by Ashley Young.

If PSG have withdrawn their interest in the player then it could open the door for Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich to re-enter the race, as the club’s Director of Sport Mattias Sammer confirmed earlier in the month that Di Maria was a transfer target for manager Pep Guardiola, according it Bild’s chief reporter Christian Falk.

There had been speculation in the media that a potential swap deal taking Mario Gotze to England was on the cards [via ESPN], but after his goal against Inter Milan in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday afternoon, it appears he will play a vital role for the Bavarians in the upcoming campaign.
