Chelsea in advanced negotiations with Galatasaray over left-back Alex Telles

Chelsea are reportedly set to fend off competition from several top European clubs for the signature of highly-rated Galatasaray defender Alex Telles.

According to Sky Italia reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues are leading the race ahead of Serie A duo Juventus and Inter Milan as negotiations are at an advanced stage with the Turkish outfit for the 22-year-old, who scored once in 22 Super Lig appearances last season.

Jose Mourinho is in the transfer market for a new left-back as Filipe Luis is set for a swift return to former club Atletico Madrid in the coming days after struggling to adjust to the demands of English football during his debut season.

Should a deal go through for Telles in the near future, then he will become the reigning Premier League champions’ fifth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Nathan, Radamel Falcao, Asmir Begovic and Danilo Pantic in West London.

It could also serve as a major hint that the Blues’ interest in Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba has cooled, despite reports last week suggesting that a deal was close to completion [via Metro Sport].
