Arsenal transfer news: Gunners working on deal for youthful strike pair

Arsenal could be close to letting two of their young strikers leave the club in loan moves this summer, according to latest reports from the Daily Star.

The Gunners may be clearing out their squad in the anticipation of bringing more names in up front, though it remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger will be content with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott to battle it out for a place to lead the line this season.

Two players currently not in Wenger’s first-team plans are Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom, with the latter possibly set to gain experience by moving on loan to the Championship, though the Star does not mention interest from any specific club.

Campbell, meanwhile, is seemingly in talks over a move to Serie A side Palermo, who lost Paulo Dybala to Juventus this summer and who could do with more bodies up front.

The Costa Rica international has struggled to establish himself at the Emirates Stadium after years of going out on loan, and it looks like he’ll be on the move again this summer, with Palermo not willing to pay his £7m asking price.

Although the 23-year-old surely has no future in north London, another temporary switch could be the right choice in getting the player in the proverbial shop window to attract bidders at a later date.
