Argentine international winger Angel Di Maria has confessed that he never wanted to join Manchester United, according to the Daily Express.
The former Real Madrid man joined the Red Devils last summer in a British record £59.7m transfer (via Express) but has now stated that he never wanted to leave Spain.
The 27-year-old endured a frustrating campaign with the Red Devils, which came to an end this summer when he joined French giants Paris Saint Germain for £44m (via Express) and has now admitted that he just wanted to leave Old Trafford as soon as possible.
“My intention was always to stay [at Madrid]. I don’t really know what happened on the inside [of the deal],” he told spanish newspaper Marca.
“These are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football.”
On why he struggled at Old Trafford, he added: “I started very well but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed.
“It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.”
