Arjen Robben vows to take struggling Man United ace Memphis Depay under his wing

Veteran Dutch international Arjen Robben has offered some sage advice to Memphis Depay in a bid to help him overcome his recent poor form, the Daily Mail reports.

The Bayern Munich flyer will offer the 21-year-old advice on how to make a success of his time in England, but has first insisted that he needs to adapt his mentality in order to get himself back on track.

Louis van Gaal’s £25million marquee summer signing has found himself dropped in favour of academy graduate Jesse Lingard recently, and appears to be finding it difficult to adapt to life in a new country and his manager’s methods.

Like Depay, Robben joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven when he was only 20, but had to wait until October to make his debut as injuries kept him sidelined, but he recovered enough to win two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup before joining Real Madrid.

“Of course I will give him advice,” said the 31-year-old. “We try to help each other as players and the team to make steps.

“He is a talented player in a difficult situation, I can give him advice but the player has to cope with it, show strength and the right mentality.

“It is important in your development as a player, it is not always sunshine, you have difficult periods, especially when you are young.

“He has long way ahead and if he shows the right mentality, the talent is there. If he keeps working hard I am sure he can succeed.”
