REVEALED: Real Madrid’s plans to fire Rafael Benitez; Zinedine Zidane lined up as replacement

Posted by

Spanish source Marca have revealed Real Madrid’s plans for Rafael Benitez’s future in light of the crushing El Clasico defeat to Barcelona.

Los Merengues were thoroughly outclassed on Saturday, falling to a 4-0 defeat to their fierce rivals in a fiercely one-sided clash.

The defeat leaves Los Blancos six points behind their bitter rivals, and places coach Benitez—who replaced Carlo Ancelotti during the summer—in a near-untenable position.

Marca reveal that president Florentino Perez is currently deciding what to do with his underperforming manager, but the source reveal that the chief will either offload Benitez now, or to opt to give the ex-Liverpool coach the season to prove his worth before cutting ties at the end of the campaign.

Benitez himself has accepted at least partial responsibility for the Clasico demolition, while the identity of the coach’s successor in the Spanish capital looks to have already been decided.
