With qualification to the next stage of the Champions League still very much in the balance, a home clash with PSV Eindhoven seemed like the ideal opportunity to give the fans something to cheer about.
However, the Red Devils struggled to make anything exciting happen in front of goal and ended up disappointed onlookers with their lack of attacking intent.
Memphis Depay, Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial all failed to get the fans off their seats, but substitutes Marouane Fellaini and Ashley Young hardly helped matters with Jesse Lingard perhaps the only Manchester United player who looked threatening.
United now need a win in Wolfsburg on the final match day if they hope to make it through to the next round.
And here’s how their fans reacted…
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United for the Europa League.

Another confident, convincing home performance from Louis van Gaal's Manchester United… #MUFC #PSV

Abysmal stuff from United.

Four 0-0s in seven games for Manchester United. CL exit beckons. Van Gaal's dullness is damaging.

Perhaps Van Gaal should walk off into the sunset this summer before every last bit of creativity is coached out of the players?

That was ok for 50 minutes, the rest… probably the worst this season, although hard to distinguish between some of these performances now

You need a goal with 10, 15 minutes to go – fine, bring on Fellaini. But with half an hour to go, and in central midfield? Do me a favour.

Man Utd aren't only poor, but tough to watch #lifeless
