Liverpool eyeing Ligue 1 wideman as replacement for Real Madrid transfer target

Liverpool are understood to be considering a move to bring FC Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro to Anfield should Alberto Moreno depart.

The Spanish left-back hasn’t always had it easy on Merseyside, but his form has picked up this season, prompting reporting interest from Real Madrid [as per the Metro].

Jurgen Klopp is understood to be making a contingency plan in case of the full-back’s departure, and Mercato 365 [as per the Metro], report that he’s considering Lorient’s Guerreiro as the ideal replacement for Moreno.

The Portugal international is a versatile operator who has shone for Les Merlus as a left-back, a left wing-back and in a more advanced role as a left winger.

Still only 21, he is already an accomplished performer in Ligue 1 and racked up seven goals and three assists in 34 outings in the French top flight last term, proving influential as Lorient escaped relegation.

He hasn’t been quite as consistent this term—managing only one goal and one assist in 14 outings—but he remains a menacing prospect on the overlap and a competent defensive performer.

Moreno, by contrast, has one assist in 13 EPL showings this term, having scored two goals in 28 outings last year.

However, should Liverpool move for the former Caen youngster, they may face competition from Borussia Dortmund, with the Metro noting that Klopp’s former club have also been linked to the player.
