Manchester United set for £29.9m transfer battle for Premier League star

Manchester United are reportedly set to bid £29.9m for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez in January, but face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Telefoot, the Algerian international has attracted the attention of several clubs from around Europe with his form so far this season, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain also monitoring his progress.

Mahrez has scored 13 goals and produced six assists in 16 Premier League games this year, and in turn the 24-year-old has been instrumental in helping the Foxes sit top of the table with 38 points from their 17 games.

While Claudio Ranieri’s men remain focused on securing their safety from relegation first and foremost, the Italian tactician could be forced to make some difficult decisions in the January transfer window if significant bids are made for the likes of Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

Given that the club signed Mahrez for just €500,000 from Le Havre in 2014, it would represent a huge profit. However, they may choose to ignore the figures as ultimately they have built a winning formula at the King Power Stadium and disrupting it now could be costly both on and off the pitch.

Mahrez has insisted himself that he doesn’t believe leaving Leicester next month would be a smart decision for his career, as reported by The Daily Mail, and so it appears as though both United and Tottenham could be left disappointed in their transfer hunt for the talented winger.
