Liverpool aim to beat French giants to 21-year-old Ghana international

Liverpool have been linked with a move to sign Ghana international defender Daniel Amartey.

According to our sister site and Liverpool fan blog Empire of the Kop, Jurgen Klopp has identified 21-year-old Amartey as a potential solution to his unconvincing defence and has sounded out FC Kobenhavn about the player’s availability.

Amartey—who can play in the heart of the defence or as a defensive midfielder—boasts an impressive frame, but also offers the mobility that so many ‘big units’ can lack in the heart of the defence.

He has experience of both the Champions League and of winning titles, having done so with his Danish side.

He burst into the international scene at the 2015 Cup of Nations when he was a surprise call up to the Ghana squad by Black Stars coach Avram Grant, but impressed in the tournament—both as part of a back three and a back four—before injury curtailed his progress.

Without him, Ghana advanced to the final, with Amartey finding it hard to break back into the side in subsequent months.

He has also been linked to German sides Schalke and Wolfsburg, as well as French heavyweights Marseille and AS Monaco.
