Chelsea stalwart shocks club by pushing for Real Madrid switch

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is reportedly hoping for a move to Real Madrid which will undoubtedly come as a huge shock to the Premier League champions.

The Belgian international has emerged as an integral part of the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge over the last season and a half, which in turn forced former No.1 Petr Cech to move to Arsenal in the summer in a bid to gain more playing time.

However, the Blues are set for a significant setback as according to Ok Diario in Spain, the shot-stopper wants a return to the Spanish capital where he previously played for Atletico Madrid and helped the club to a La Liga title and the final of the Champions League.

As noted by the Spanish media outlet, it isn’t the first time that the Belgian has issued a ‘come and get me’ plea to the La Liga giants, as he also reportedly made it clear when he was leaving Atletico that he wanted a move to the Bernabeu.

While the switch failed to materialise on the occasion, it is claimed that he is adamant about leaving London in the coming months in order to return to Madrid.

It remains to be seen whether or not Los Blancos and Chelsea can come to an agreement, particularly given that the latter are unlikely to want to lose such an important player as they look to rebuild under a new coach next season.

In addition, there is also the case of Madrid reigniting their interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, as noted by The Mirror, after they came close to signing the Spaniard prior to the summer transfer window deadline.

Nevertheless, with Courtois supposedly making it clear that he wishes to leave London, it could well set up an interesting situation in which Madrid are forced to choose between two of the best goalkeepers in Europe.
